Greenock (Glasgow) - Inverness
28th June 2018 - 6th July 2018
Explore the South West Coast of Scotland under sail
Begin on the Clyde in Greenock near Glasgow and get your sea legs as you sail out the river into the Firth of Clyde. There are stunning islands like Arran and the rugged coastline of Argyll and Bute - but this is just the beginning. The first half of the voyage roams up the SW coast of Scotland around the Mull of Kintyre and up past Islay and Jura. There are fast tides here like the Corryvrecken Whirlpools and anchorages dangerously close to whisky distilleries!!
The Inner Hebrides
There may be time to stop on Islay or Jura or perhaps Iona off the SW tip of Mull, before you swing into the Firth of Lorne. Brooding castles remind everyone they are in Scotland. Look out for otters, seals and cetaceans in these deep waters. Once you pass Oban the sailing space gets more tricky and you may find the ship tacking or gybing up past Lismore towards Fort William and the Caledonian Canal.
The Caledonian Canal
There is a big refit in the geology that cuts right accross Scotland, and the Caledonian Canal is a route to the East Coast which includes wide open lochs like Loch Ness, and more canal like stretches with lock gates to gain or lose height. You may see Ben Nevis - the highest mountain in the UK as you start your traverse. Navigate the famous Neptune's staircase, a flight of 8 lochs and search for Nessie as we sail across Loch Ness.
This voyage offers amazing dramatic scenery with plenty of opportunities to take some breath-taking photography.
